Hello everyone. Its been awhile since my last blog. With the holidays upon us I just wanted to remind everyone that this is one of the more busy times for theft to occur. So with that I just wanted to give a few tips.
1. Don't leave your purse or bag sitting in your shopping cart. Its an easy target for any thief. 2. If you are going shopping from store to store. Make sure you hide all your items in the trunk or somewhere in the car where it's not visible. 3. When leaving the store. Don't stop to talk to anyone you don't know. They could be pulling some kind of scam. Enjoy the holidays all. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Hello everyone! Its been awhile since I've blogged. As you see by the title of my blog, not all locksmiths are equal. The reason I say this is in the last few years, the locksmith industry has been flooded by new "locksmiths" advertising in the phone books and especially the internet. These "locksmiths" have a get your foot in the door tactic that they have mastered. Unknowing customers who call these so called "locksmiths" are pleased to find the service call so cheap. (typically between $15-$35) That they schedule these guys out for service. Not realizing that they are about to be fleeced! We true locksmiths call these guys "scammer locksmiths" They are almost always mobile only and show up in personal vehicles. Unlicensed (which you are supposed to be) and give receipts that have no address or call back number yet they show an address on the internet that does not exist. One example of this was last month when I had to rekey the mobile home of an elderly lady who asked for 5 keys and received only 4. Yet was charged for 5. No big deal right? Simple mistake? Maybe? Except that the elderly lady called this "locksmith" only because she was locked out of her mobile home. One lock that had to be picked open. A job that should of taken 5-10 minutes and typically cost $65-$75. But this "locksmith" never even attempted to pick the lock. He told her both locks had to be drilled out and replaced and ended up charging her $270. She was 84 years old and on a fixed income and this guy had no problem ripping her off. She called us out because of the key shortage and thinking they would come back to rip her off again. We rekeyed her door and made her 6 keys. All for $90. Do your due diligence before you ever call a locksmith. Make sure they are licensed and have an actual location you can go to if there is a problem. Protect yourself. Because sometimes, even your "locksmith" cant be trusted.
Hello again everyone. My post today is in regards to obtaining spare keys when ever you purchase a new or used car. I've had several customers in recent weeks who have called or come in to get a spare key made for their vehicles that they had recently purchased. Only to find out (in great shock) how expensive a spare key can be. This is because almost any vehicle built now has some kind of anti-theft system in the actual key itself. These keys are called transponder keys. Others also refer to them as laser cut. These keys start anywhere from $50 to upwards of $500. (depending on the car). Unfortunately most car dealers and buyers are not aware of the cost of these keys and put off getting a spare made until after the fact. Sometimes not until they lose the only key they had. (which makes it even more expensive) So do yourself a favor and demand a second key from the dealer! Trust me. They wont want to lose the deal over a key! And if your curious about whether the car your purchasing has a transponder key and would like to find out. Just give us a call and tell us the year, make, and model of the car and we can tell you what kind of key it has. And how much it would cost for a spare. That's all for this post. Til next time, Busy B's
